Q: What is the purpose of the group?
Organized in 1987, the purpose of the Retiree Club is to promote and preserve communication, fellowship and mutual helpfulness among retirees of Williams/Transco, as well as to establish and maintain contacts and communication with Williams on matters of interest to Williams/Transco retirees and their spouses.
Q: How many members are there?
Currently there are 171 retirees, spouses and former employees of Williams/Transco who are dues paying members.
Q: How often does the club meet?
The club meets five times each year at a luncheon on the first Wednesday in February, May, August, October and December.
Q: How does the club communicate with its members?
Our Retiree Board of Directors meets a month prior to each luncheon and mails a newsletter to over 400 individuals on our mailing list, informing them of our next scheduled event, members who have passed away, highlights of the last luncheon and other pertinent articles. We also inform our members via email when one of our own passes away.
Q: What group activities does the club engage in?
The club has a regular luncheon, usually featuring a guest speaker, and we host a special BBQ meal in October. We have made day trips to various points of interest throughout Texas. On occasion, members have also traveled to various U.S. cities and abroad.
Q: What is the best thing about belonging to this group?
We have the opportunity to maintain and renew relationships with employees with whom we worked with over the years.
Q: Does the group participate with the Houston office in any community activities, e.g. United Way Day of Caring?
Each year at the October BBQ meal, we feature guest speakers from the various United Way agencies and provide information about their activities. There also is an opportunity for our members to volunteer their services at this time.
Q: Where can people go to find out more information on the Retiree Club?
We do not have a website, but any questions or comments can be directed to our email address at firstname.lastname@example.org. Many recent retirees/former employees learn about the Club through contact with other retirees who are members.
